ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Mark Kotsay is focusing on the Oakland Athletics’ current season, not on the team’s longterm location.“I’m managing this team and I don’t have control of those decisions,” he said Friday, two days after the team said it purchased land in Las Vegas with the intention of building a ballpark there for the 2027 season. “My focus is on getting this team better, improving from the maturation of these young players and winning as many games as possible.”Kotsay played for Oakland from 2004-07, was a coach from 2016-21 under Bob Melvin and was promoted to manager ahead of the 2022 season. His team was 3-16 going into Friday night’s game at Texas. The A’s had a major league low payroll of $57.8 million on opening day, and their average attendance of 11,027 through 12 home games is the lowest in the majors and less than half of the league average of about 27,600. SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Boston captain Patrice Bergeron did not accompany the Bruins on their trip to Florida for Games 3 and 4 of an Eastern Conference first-round series with the Panthers. He missed Game 1 due to illness and Game 2 to an unspecified upper-body injury. Game 3 is Friday evening.“We believe Game 5 is likely,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said.Bergeron was the Bruins’ third-leading scorer in the regular season with 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points. The 37-year-old forward got hurt in the first period of the regular-season finale in Montreal, and also missed four of eight games late in the season, with the Bruins having nothing left to play for. Bergeron returned for Boston’s last two games. “We wanted, I wanted and Bergy wanted the last two games to ramp up, to get into a rhythm for the playoffs,” Montgomery said. “Life happens. Unfortunately, tweaked something in that last game. Even with the hindsight, we would still do it exactly the same way. That’s how it’s easy t...

CLEVELAND (AP) — The series opener between the Miami Marlins and Cleveland Guardians scheduled for Friday night was postponed by wet weather. The game was rescheduled for Saturday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 3:10 p.m. EDT. Right-hander Sandy Alcantara (1-2, 5.47 ERA) was scheduled to face Bieber, but the Marlins didn’t announce a starter for the opener. Miami left-hander Braxton Garrett (0-0, 3.38 ERA) and Cleveland right-hander Zach Plesac (1-0, 6.92 ERA) are scheduled to start the second game after their appearances Friday night were washed out.The tarp was placed on the field around 5 p.m., bringing an early end to Cleveland’s batting practice. LeBron not trading trash talk with Brooks before Game 3

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 08:18:08 GMT

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — LeBron James has seemed wise beyond his years since the start of his basketball journey, and he wasn’t about to drop down to Dillon Brooks’ level of discourse heading into a pivotal game for the Los Angeles Lakers.James declined to respond to the Memphis Grizzlies’ top agitator Friday after Brooks said the top scorer in NBA history was “old” following Game 2 of the teams’ first-round playoff series, which resumes Saturday night in Los Angeles. The 38-year-old James patiently parried several questions about Brooks’ comments and about the importance of trash talk in general before abruptly cutting short his media session at the Lakers’ training complex. James never said Brooks’ name, but he clearly knew who’s behind the narrative trying to push its way into a competitive series after two eventful games in Memphis.“I’m ready to play,” James said. “That’s it.”The seventh-seeded Lakers’ visit from the Gr...
